The Best Restaurants and Bars in Detroit’s Eastern Market #DetroitFood

Mitsos. | Rosa Maria Zamarrón

Eastern Market is Detroit’s quintessential food hub, where each weekend, tens of thousands of metro Detroiters make their way to its iconic sheds for all manner of produce, prepared foods, meat processors, and garden starters. It’s a neighborhood that’s marked by both its old-school establishments and a new wing of incoming businesses joining the fray to capture the spirit of the neighborhood.

Recent additions in the past year include casual walk-up diner and cafe Mitsos Greek Food & Coffee, as well as market stalwart Supino Pizzeria, which reemerged from a fire and is again slinging takeout slices and pies to hungry shoppers. More recently, two spots — Pocket Change and Fred’s — filled the vacancies left by Bunny Bunny and Cøllect. Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled for Baobab Fare’s Waka, which is building out a physical space within the former Russell Street Deli space. Likewise, Marrow Provisions — a sibling to the award-winning West Village restaurant and butcher shop — is in the works on Riopelle.

New to the map: Fred’s joins the map and Supino returns post-fire, and Detroit Vineyards and Boulders Bistro and Brew are coming off as they’re permanently closed.
