Metro Detroit’s Best Chinese Restaurants #DetroitFood

Like many diaspora communities in metro Detroit, the Chinese American population is largely sprawled out in the suburbs, and that’s also where you’ll find excellent options for classics like almond boneless chicken, egg drop soup, spicy mapo tofu, and salt and pepper squid. Many in the community joined the exodus to the suburbs in the 1960s and ’70s, abandoning Detroit’s Chinatown, which is situated in the area around Cass Avenue and Peterboro. In recent years, portions of the old neighborhood were demolished, but plans are afoot to revive the district, with one developer intent on rebuilding the former Chung’s restaurant.
Throughout the region, there are plenty of locally beloved establishments, plus a few restaurants that out-of-towners would be smart to check out, too. Whether the day calls for dim sum, classic American Chinese takeout, crispy Beijing duck, or a numbing bowl of Sichuan noodles, here are 16 excellent Chinese restaurants to try in metro Detroit.
The latest additions to the list include China Cafe and Young’s Chinese Food Carryout.
