Hamtramck’s official city motto is “The World in Two Square Miles,” and the restaurant scene in this small but mighty city is truly jam-packed with culinary gems from places all over the globe. Nestled entirely within Detroit city limits, Hamtramck is its own municipality with a bustling immigrant population that brings vibrant cuisine from Poland, Yemen, Bangladesh, and the Balkans.

There are plenty of grab-and-go options in Hamtramck’s many small markets, including Euro Mini Market for burek, a Bosnian phyllo pastry stuffed with cheese or spinach, or Al-Haramain International for a vast fresh food bar filled with hummus, olives, and stuffed grape leaves. Beyond the markets, these restaurants are tried and true Hamtramck favorites.

In this edition, cocktail bar the Black Salt makes way for the newly reopened High Dive, Hamtramck says goodbye to Le Detroit Macaron, which sadly shuttered its doors in 2024, and we shift Polish food coverage from Polonia to its neighbor Polish Village Cafe. Out (for now) are Dos Locos, Remas, Ali’s, and Fat Salmon Sushi, making room for Banglatown buffet favorite Aladdin Sweets and Cafe, and newcomers Sabor Taco Truck and La Marsa.
