Detroit’s Best Coffee Shops #DetroitFood

Steamed milk is poured into a clear mug.

While Detroit is home to plenty of beautiful parks, art galleries, and museums, some of the most breathtaking third spaces in the city are actually coffee shops. A remodeled old church, a row house in a leafy neighborhood, a Filipino cafe and bakery — there’s an ever-increasing array of gorgeous spaces to enjoy coffee in Detroit, with each one serving as a quiet watering hole for its respective neighborhood. And if you take your coffee black, that’s fine, but with an ever-growing list of espresso tonics, lattes, and teas available in the city, it’s probably time to step up and try something new. Luckily, Detroit has plenty of excellent baristas, and we’ve built quite the extensive list of coffee shops here. These places are pretty, too, so, forget the to-go cup; grab a mug and stay a while.

Exiting the list are Cafe Prince, Red Hook’s Midtown location, and Madcap Coffee Company. Entering the list for the first time are Saturn, a brand new coffee shop in New Center, Washed Up Coffee on Kercheval, and Red Hook’s beautiful West Village outpost.
