The Best Traverse City Restaurants #DetroitFood

From smash burger slingers to James Beard Award-nominated dining institutions serving stellar tasting menus, here’s where to eat in Traverse City this summer
When most people venture to northern Michigan, they are going for the towering white pines, miles and miles of protected sandy shoreline, and the crackling fireside sunsets. If Traverse City is within reach, they should also take a moment for the food. In recent years, the restaurant scene in this town at the foot of Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay has quietly planted the roots of an exciting regional food scene.
From a 24-seat restaurant that was Michigan’s only James Beard finalist this spring and a husband and wife duo that left Michelin-starred kitchens in Chicago to come North, to a stunning gathering space that feels like eating in an elevated farmstand, here are the places that will make visitors rethink what to eat Up North.
New to the map: In this update, we’re removing Hexenbelle, Mode’s Bum Steer, Oakwood Proper Burgers, and Forrest, A Food Studio, as well as Wren, which is still an excellent place to pay a visit if you’re in Suttons Bay. In their places, welcome Glendale Burger Shop to the guide.
