Downtown Detroit’s Best Places to Eat and Drink #DetroitFood

From swanky cocktail bars, classic steakhouses, and juicy smash burgers, here’s where to eat downtown
Downtown Detroit has experienced an incredible influx of restaurants, bars, and cafes over the past decade-plus. The scene has gone from the expected coney dogs, boring chains, and tired fine dining establishments to creative tasting menus, elegant cocktail bars, and creative little nooks where one can grab a treat on the run.
If you’re visiting the city for the first time, travel to the Motor City often for business, or are just a suburb away from the action, there have never been so many eating and drinking places to choose from in the 21st century. Downtown has seen an influx of clubby restaurants and chains, giving diners the options to splurge big on a sit-down meal or spend less on a casual bite. For true hot dog fans who can’t stop downtown without a visit to an iconic coney stand, we‘ve got you covered with our coney crawl.
For the April 2025 update, Union Assembly and Frita Batido’s are among the departures. They’re still featured on our best places to eat and drink near Comerica Park. Cafes Madcap Coffee Company and Spkrbox, both of which live on the coffee shop map, also exit. Entering the downtown map is Chenin, the moody wine cave and eatery set in an alley to the rear of the Siren Hotel.
