A grand opening event will feature giveaways, merch, and donations to local charities

The convenience store chain Sheetz, whose 24/7, made-to-order offerings enjoy wild popularity throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, is making its metro Detroit debut on Tuesday, August 27. The family-owned, Altoona-Pennsylvania-based company will launch its first Michigan store at 33380 Wick Road in Romulus with a grand opening celebration, which will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and includes free self-serve coffee and pop, giveaways of Sheetz gift cards, merch, and donations to Forgotten Harvest, Romulus Parks & Recreation, and the Special Olympics of Michigan.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the Wick Road opening is the first of a planned 50 to 60 locations the company wants to open in metro Detroit area in the coming five to six years. Additional planned locations include another Romulus spot, as well as in Chesterfield Township, Taylor, Macomb Township, and Warren.

Sheetz is a dominant force in the Mid-Atlantic regional gas station food game and has more than 700 locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. Fans are commonly referred to as Sheetz Freakz, and a podcast called Freakz in the Sheetz also exists, providing commentary on the chain’s iconic 24-hour, made-to-order food offerings.
