Street Beet, the longtime vegan pop-up that brought Detroiters its meat-free take on iconic fast food dishes, is returning to Third Street Bar at 4626 3rd Avenue — the venue where the venture held a years-long residency until going on an extended hiatus.

In a media release shared with reporters on Monday, August 26, the relaunch will kick off with service from noon to midnight on Saturday, September 7 during the annual Dally in the Alley festival in the Cass Corridor. The following day, visitors can check out brunch service from noon to 4 p.m. featuring a number of Street Beet classics. While Street Beet founders Nina Paletta and Meghan Shaw will return to a semi-permanent residency at the same location that they began using in 2019, the duo have their sights set on opening their own brick and mortar location in 2025.

Street Beet got its start in 2018 with a series of pop-up events at PJ’s Lager House, where Paletta and Shaw gave diners meatless takes on fast food classics, with menu offerings that included Vegan Taco Hell, as well as a McDaddy’s event spoofing McDonald’s, and Kentucky Fake Chicken.

In February 2022, the pair announced that the pop-up would cease operations, but earlier this year Paletta and Shaw released a cookbook, Nostalgic Vegan, featuring a collection of their beloved recipes, and setting off a series pop-up events at Nancy Whiskey Pub, the Bagley Bar, and Third Street Bar. In May 2024, Paletta and Shaw and fellow pop-up venture Khana made headlines after backing out of a series of events at the now defunct Framebar, bringing to light concerns over how the venue split profits with pop-up operators.
