The restaurant will be replaced by a different steakhouse

Wolfgang Puck Steak is gone from the MGM Grand Detroit casino for good. The high-end steakhouse from the famous chef has been closed throughout the pandemic and will not reopen, according to the Detroit News.

A new steakhouse called D.Prime is taking over the space, which was occupied by Puck’s restaurant for eight years. Puck had also previously occupied a neighboring space with a casual restaurant called Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria and Cucina, and before that Wolfgang Puck Grille.

Despite his celebrity chef status, Puck’s restaurant empire — largely distributed across resorts and casinos — has been hit hard by COVID-19. Only recently did Michigan begin allowing casinos in Detroit to reopen at limited capacity. Already this year, Puck closed a restaurant in one of Washington, D.C.’s Newseum buildings (recently sold to Johns Hopkins University) and a high-rise Dallas restaurant.
