Hamtramck mainstay Polonia restaurant is listed for sale

Polonia Restaurant, a local favorite with kitschy Polish decor and food, listed for sale last week. The 5,890-square-foot property Hamtramck, which opened as Polonia in 1934, is asking $450,000. In statements to the Detroit News, Century 21 realtor Mark Tlok says owner John Zurowski is looking towards retirement but hoping to keep the restaurant open. Zurowski has operated the restaurant since 1986 and has expressed interest in training a buyer in the restaurant’s popular recipes.

Farm Field Table expands to a second location

Ferndale butcher shop Farm Field Table is opening a second outpost this month in Grosse Pointe Park. Owners Matt and Mike Romine are planning to devote the space to both retail and production of charcuterie and sausages. In addition to meat, the store will sell items like flour and produce.

Fancy lemonade stand becomes a full-scale brand

The Dequindre Cut’s crane-operated bougie lemonade stand Bea’s Squeeze has transformed into a business with multiple lemonade flavors and distribution in 11 states, according to the Detroit Free Press. The owners recently open their coworking space, Bea’s in Eastern Market.

Russell Street Deli’s soup spinoff receives award

Little Pot Soup, the brand spinoff of Detroit’s former Russell Street Deli, received an award from Whole Foods. The company was recently named Regional Supplier of the Year for the Midwest region. Owner Ben Hall tells Eater he hopes to provide details on a follow up restaurant to Russell Street Deli very soon.

Critic goes vegan for a month

In a stunt meant to help get to know metro Detroit’s growing vegan food movement more intimately, Detroit Free Press critic Mark Kurlyandchik is going animal product-free for a month. Here’s a good place to start on the vegetarian and vegan journey. I strongly recommend the vegan pizzas at Pie-Sci.
