Saucy Brew Works is bringing apizza and IPAs to the City Modern development

A new brewery is heading to Brush Park next year by way of Cleveland. Ohio-based Saucy Brew Works, a pizzeria and brewery, is scheduled to take up residence inside Bedrock’s City Modern development in 2020, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The original location opened in 2017 and is already in the process of expanding to Columbus and Independence between 2020 and 2021, according to Crain’s Cleveland. Detroit will be the fourth outpost.

Saucy Brew Works’ catalogue of beer includes canned and bottled options like the Habituale, a kölsch-style golden ale, and the IPA ASAP, an American IPA. The brewery also releases other labels seasonally and in special releases.

The Cleveland menu features “apizza,” a term generally referencing New Haven-style pizza. There’s only one other restaurant group known locally that serves this style — Tomatoes Apizza — and it would be a new addition to Detroit proper.

Eater has reached out to Saucy Brew Works for more details on the project and will update this story when information becomes available.

City Modern is still under construction. The multi-phase development includes a variety of townhomes, carriage houses, apartment buildings, and renovated historic rental homes. The first tenants moved in during summer 2018. Construction is expected to be completed by 2021.
