Ottava Via Owner Acquires Neighboring Space on Michigan Avenue #DetroitFood
What will land in the Corktown storefront next?
What’s happening with the space next to Corktown’s Ottava Via? The Italian restaurant’s former neighbors Team Screen Print vacated the building over the summer and, as an tipster tells it, Ottava Via’s ownership have claimed the space for a rumored expansion. What exactly will land there isn’t yet clear.
Eater reached out to Ottava Via and management did confirm that Ottava Via’s owner has acquired the space. However, they declined to comment on specific plans for the vacant storefront stating that the owners are still deciding how to use it and a separate, unspecified location in Corktown.
News of the property follows reports of a new restaurant project from the Ottava Via team in July. Metro Times first-reported on taco concept El Cuadro that Ottava Via owner Dave Steinke and chef Ariel Millan were working on somewhere in Corktown. The menu would feature tacos with Mexican- and Caribbean-inspired fillings (an homage to Millan’s Puerto Rican roots). At the time it was reported that the restaurant would open in Spring or Summer 2017. Representatives from Ottava Via declined to comment on the progress of that or any other projects. Stay tuned.
