Dutch Girl Donuts Resumes 24/7 Service #DetroitFood

The shop has begun featuring locally roasted cold brew and collaborated with another iconic brand to develop a red velvet doughnut hole-flavored ice cream

Dutch Girl Donuts, the beloved Woodward Avenue shop that has been feeding Detroiters with its fried glazed wonders for generations, is keeping its promise to provide customers with the same level of service that fans have long expected from the iconic spot. Beginning Tuesday, September 24, the establishment is resuming 24-hour service — a key feature from the days when Dutch Girl was operated by the Timmer family.

The shop will operate from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Sunday, and close on Mondays.

“Going back to 24-hour service is our way of honoring the past and strengthening our connection with the community,” said owner Paddy Lynch in a statement issued to local media last week. “We’re excited to be there for our customers, whether they’re early risers or night owls, offering the same high-quality, joy-inducing doughnuts Dutch Girl has always been known for.”

Lynch — owner of the Schvitz historic bathhouse and a TK funeral — announced in November 2023 that he had acquired Dutch Girl from the Timmer family. Dutch Girl Donuts shuttered in September 2021, citing issues with staffing and family health problems. Owner Gene Timmer died that month at 75 following a battle with cancer. Gene Timmer’s parents, John and Cecelia Timmer, founded Dutch Girl in 1947.

Lynch reopened Dutch Girl in May 2024 and since then, has worked to restore the shop’s former glory by purchasing new equipment, making repairs, coming up with seasonal flavors, and collaborating with other local food and drink brands to usher in a new era for the spot. Among the changes, Dutch Girl recently partnered with Highland Park-based Becharas Brothers Coffee Co. for its cold brew and Ray’s Ice Cream Co. in Royal Oak to launch a limited run of red velvet-flavored ice cream infused with bits of Dutch Girl red velvet doughnut holes.
