Where to order dinner, find festive cocktails, and celebrate with friends

‘Tis the season for holiday gatherings, sharing meals with loved ones, and to celebrate the festivities with seasonal cocktails. Whether you’re opting for reservations at a beloved eatery or looking for ways to spiff up your plans at home, there are plenty of places to help with your needs throughout metro Detroit.

Below, Eater has assembled a guide to options for ordering in and where to make reservations this holiday season. It’s important to reserve sooner, rather than later as many restaurants and bakeries have strict deadlines for reserving items. Where can I make reservations, order catering trays, and takeaway holiday spreads?

Apparatus Room (250 W Larned St) — On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, diners can indulge in a cote de boeuf for two for $150 — which includes a dry-aged cote de boeuf with pomme puree and sauce Morilles — a spaghetti alla chitarra con tartufo for $30, and a fried hazelnut and salsa tartufata. To drink, bartender Petr Balcarovsky has created a selection of seasonal cocktails, including a winter sangria made with Chambord, Lillet, Oleo and topped off with sparkling rose and a sugar dusted rosemary and raspberry. Coriander Kitchen and Farm (14601 Riverside Blvd) — Hosting duties become less daunting when you have a little help. At Coriander, customers can stock up on some of the fancy provisions needed to take any gathering from just OK to just right. This year, the riverfront eatery is offering a holiday gift box for $68, which includes a variety of sauces and condiments that will add a little touch of flavor to any feast. From jars of tomato chutney, garlic chili crisp, champagne and chive blossom lemon thyme vinegar, Coriander Farm garlic honey; plus a choice of two rum cakes or four cornflake, chocolate chip, and marshmallow cookies. Folk (1701 Trumbull St.) — Be a good guest at any holiday party by bringing a gift box curated by the team behind this cafe and market in Corktown and select which social justice causes you’re most enthused about supporting, by purchasing items that are ethically-sourced, or are produced by women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and local makers. Pick from high-end pantry staples like olive oil to snacks, chili oil, indigenous provisions, to wine.

Hazel’s (1 Peabody St, Birmingham) — Hazel’s Holiday Takeaway pre-order and pick up menu is available for pre-order through December 21, featuring classics like ham, Alaskan king crab, ready-to-bake lobster pot pie, cinnamon rolls, and more. Orders must be picked up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Madam (298 S Old Woodward Ave, Birmingham) — A special Holiday High Tea will take place in this swanky hotel restaurant every Saturday and Sunday in the month of December from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each tea time tower features a variety of pan de mie sandwiches, quiches, scones, and other savory snacks, as well as sweets like caramel tarts, macarons, cookies, and more. The last service available is December 24. Reservations are required.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse (1128 Washington Blvd) — The Westin Book Cadillac’s newest dining destination will offer a limited á la carte menu Christmas Eve 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., noon to 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, and 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on New Years Eve. Reservations required.

Symposia (1000 Brush St.) — Glam it up in downtown’s Greektown district at Symposia, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Christmas Eve for a special dinner menu featuring Beef Wellington — made with seared tenderloin beef encased in layers of puff pastry, and filled with foie gras, wild mushroom duxelles, spinach and, Madeira Périgueux truffle sauce. In addition, the restaurant’s regular menu offerings will also be available. Christmas Eve dinner is $45 and reservations are recommended.

San Morello (1400 Woodward Ave.) — Downtown hotspot San Morello will feature the eatery’s regular à la carte menu, as well as several special menu items both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Celebratory dishes include mussels al forno with roasted garlic; calamarata neri with Venetian salt cod; a grilled whole orata; and for dessert an Italian cream cake. On Christmas Eve, hours are 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. for breakfast, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch, and dinner takes place 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and includes the celebratory offerings. Hours on Christmas Day are 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. for breakfast and noon to 9 p.m. for the à la carte and celebratory menus. Reservations are required.

Metro Detroit

Voyager (600 Vester St., Ferndale) — The Ferndale seafood spot and oyster bar brings back its “Feast of Many Fishes” three-night menu takeover Dec. 21 through Dec. 23. December 21st to the 23rd, celebrating Christmas Eve’s seafood-heavy tradition. Tickets are not required to partake, and reservations will be available for each of the three nights.

Zao Jun (6608 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills) — For a modern Asian experience, Zao Jun will be open for bother Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Expect a variety of dim sum options like beef gyoza or chicken bao buns, drunken noodles, a selection American Chinese entrees like General Zao chicken, and a wide array of sushi rolls and nigiri.

Where can I order cookies, breads, pastries, and other baked goods?

Sister Pie (8066 Kercheval St.) — Online pre-orders for Sister Pie’s holiday goodies typically sell out quickly this time of year. Select from assorted holiday cookie boxes, salted maple pies, cranberry crumble pie, and more. Holiday hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 23, closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 26 through 29.
