A new 227-room boutique hotel is set to emerge on Michigan Avenue in the Corktown neighborhood, featuring a ground-floor restaurant, a lobby bar, and a rooftop lounge, Detroit Metro Times reports.

According to the report, developers hope to break ground on the hotel this week and expect the Godfrey to open some time in 2023.

In addition to its guest rooms encompassing seven floors and “chef-driven” restaurant on the street level of the hotel, the Godfrey will also include a rooftop bar and lounge called the I|O Rooftop Lounge. Oxford Capital Group and Farmington Hills-based Hunter Pasteur, the developers behind the Godfrey, claim it to be “Detroit’s largest indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge” with sweeping views of the Downtown and Corktown neighborhoods.

For visitors to Detroit unfamiliar with Corktown, the neighborhood, located just west of downtown, is considered the city’s oldest and the center of the current restaurant boom here. Slows Bar-B-Q, poutine and brunch favorite Brooklyn Street Local, cafe Folk, the izakaya-influenced Ima, and Thai-inspired restaurant Takoi all call Corktown home.

Those seeking spots to knock back a beer or sip wine and cocktails can find bars like craft distiller and bar Two James Spirits, MotorCity Wine, beer hall Batch Brewing Company, and sports bar institution Nemo’s in the neighborhood, too.
