Where to order dinner, find festive cocktails, and celebrate with friends (virtually)

Many folks are rightfully bummed about missing out on big family gatherings and holiday celebrations this winter. But there are some ways to brighten spirits and find some joy in what has been a very challenging year, all while supporting local businesses and employees. Why not take it easy this year and have a favorite restaurant cook dinner on Christmas Day or pick up a batch of festive cocktails to enjoy at home? The possibilities are pretty endless in 2020.

Below, Eater has assembled a guide to options for ordering in this holiday season. It’s important to reserve meals sooner, rather than later as many restaurants and bakeries have strict deadlines for reserving items. Eater Detroit will be regularly updating the list as new options become available. Email detroit@eater.com if there’s something we’ve missed.

Is it safe to gather with friends and family?

It’s safest to stay at home with people from your own household this holiday season, no matter how disappointing it may sound. Things like holiday travel, indoor gatherings, and gatherings in large groups without masks all increase the likelihood of someone in your party contracting or passing on COVID-19. The CDC is strongly recommending alternatives to the usual Christmas parties and family meals such as virtual celebrations .
