Detroit Loves Tacos is heading to John R with takeout Guanajuato-style Mexican food this winter

Two southwest Detroit locals are bringing a new Mexican restaurant to the North End later this year. Model D reports that partners Julie and Jason Stevens are in the process of previewing their Detroit Loves Tacos menu through pop-ups in the neighborhood and at local bars around the city. The dishes focus on Guanajuato-style cuisine and Detroit-influenced options.

The Stevenses are partnered in the taqueria project with building owner Steven Harris who reached out to the couple about bringing their catering business to a more permanent address.

The menu features options like frijoles charros, Mexican sandwiches, and beef or chicken tacos. There’s also vegan options like spinach enchiladas. Once completed, the restaurant will focus on takeout service with a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating in an adjacent steel shipping container. The restaurant is expected to debut within the next three months.
