A Mediterranean-American Brasserie Is Moving Into the PuppetArt Theatre Building #DetroitFood
Olin arrives in September
McClain-Camarota Hospitality — the group that brought high-rise complex Highlands to the Ren Cen last winter — is preparing to open another spot at ground-level this fall.
Owner Holly McClain first confirmed the project to Crain’s in January and today, revealed the name of the project, Olin, to Mark Kurlyandchik of the Detroit Free Press. McClain is a Michigan native and business partner with husband and James Beard Award-winning chef Shawn McClain. She describes the restaurant as a more casual, neighborhood spot with an open kitchen and a takeout window for soft pretzels, ice cream floats, and cocktails — a design feature that’s become all the more important since the onset of the pandemic. The menu will have a Mediterranean-bent.
Olin will share walls with Queens Bar, whose owner Paul Howard is leasing the 4,000-square-foot space to McClain-Camarota Hospitality. The restaurant is slated to debut in early September.
