Breakfast Favorite Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles Returns to the Avenue of Fashion on Saturday #DetroitFood
The popular restaurant is finally back in business
Local breakfast favorite Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles is reopening on the Avenue of Fashion on Saturday, March 14. The popular restaurant located at 19345 Livernois Ave., closed last summer while major construction was taking place along the business corridor. It returns to Detroit with a updated kitchen and new equipment five years after its original debut.
Owner Ron Bartell invested $350,000 in the renovation, while focusing on improvements to service and staffing. The restaurant also features new paintings by Detroit muralist Desirèe Kelly. Diners can expect all the menu classics with lightly spiced waffles and crispy fried chicken, as well as dishes like shrimp and grits.
Kuzzo’s is perhaps one of the most eagerly awaited reopenings of the year. However, it returns at a complicated time for the restaurant industry: The novel coronavirus outbreak is testing the food industry’s ability to provide service while following recommendations for “social distancing” — a crucial step in mitigating the spread of the virus.
In light of those concerns, Kuzzo’s is stepping up efforts to remind customers about handwashing and using OpenTable as a queue to reduce crowds in the waiting area. Online ordering is also available through numerous platforms including UberEats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and Black and Mobile — a Black owned food delivery service operating in Detroit.
The doors open at Kuzzo’s at 9 a.m.
