Hard Shell Taco Spot Condado Tacos Revs Up for March Opening in Cass Corridor #DetroitFood

Build-your-own tacos, margarita pitchers, and more are heading to Selden Street

Ohio-based hard shell taco chain Condado Tacos is gearing up to open its second Michigan outpost in Detroit’s Cass Corridor neighborhood next month. The company announced today that it will be bringing is build-your-own taco menu to 634 Selden St. next to Smith & Co. on Thursday, March 12.

Diners at Condado can choose from taco shell options ranging from a hard corn shell to a spicy Firecracker hard shell to a soft shell flour tortilla. The choices for filling include tequila lime steak, house-made chorizo, scrambled eggs, barbecue pulled jackfruit, Thai chili tofu, and more. Customers can then add on toppings like jicama-cabbage slaw, pickled red onions, and queso. Orders are placed using a scantron-like sheet. The chain also offers a long list of margaritas sold by-the-glass and in pitchers.

The Selden Street restaurant, located in the former Detroit Creamery property, will be Condado’s sixteenth restaurant. The company opened a Royal Oak restaurant last year. The restaurant group, while slightly different from others in the neighborhood, will likely compete with similar Ohio-based taco and tequila chain Bakersfield, and other neighborhood restaurants in the area such as Alley Taco and El Taco Veloz. It’s the latest, but not the last, food and beverage project on the block. Barcade and Nain Rouge Brewery are still in the works on the other side of Smith & Co.
