Pizza and Animatronics Chain Major Magic’s Is Returning to Metro Detroit #DetroitFood
The chain is getting reborn with old school pinball machines and arcade games
Pizza-and-entertainment chain restaurant Major Magic’s is set to return to Metro Detroit over a decade after it departed.
Per Macomb Daily, the family-friendly eatery is set to open on Groesbeck Highway in Clinton Township this winter, taking over the former Riviera Coney Island space.
That means Major Magic’s is effectively returning from the dead — the chain’s final location, in suburban Toledo, closed in 2010.
Owner Dennis McDonnell has partnered with Chesterfield Township’s Sparks Pinball Museum for the rebirth of Major Magic’s — that museum is furnishing vintage pinball and arcade games, some of which came from pre-existing Major Magic’s locations.
The Museum also rescued some of the animatronic cartoon characters from the last existing Major Magic’s, and those will also feature at the Clinton Township restaurant.
That said, McDonnell is suggesting that the restaurant will be updated to fit more modern tastes, telling Macomb Daily that “This is not the old Major Magic’s All-Star Pizza Review.” Exact details on what will be updated are yet to be announced.
Major Magic’s is in the same family restaurant category as Chuck E. Cheese, with similarities that range from robotic cartoon characters that put on a show to menu items like pizza and subs.
Expect it to arrive in late January or early February.
