Vegan Soft Serve Stand Cold Truth Eyes Weekend Opening in Cass Corridor #DetroitFood
The frozen dessert shop is settling into its second location
Cold Truth fans could be snacking on vegan soft serve ice cream cones in Midtown by this weekend. The popular ice cream pop-up is currently awaiting final inspections at its anticipated Cass Avenue location next to Asian mini mart and bubble tea shop Tou & Mai and Go! Sy Thai. The goal is to open in time for Noel Night on Saturday, November 7.
Co-founder Timothy Mahoney leased the former Fresh 101 space in June for a production kitchen and year-round walk-up window. At the time, the shop was posted up behind Trinosophes, where it originally debuted in 2018 as a spinoff of defunct brand Reilly Craft Creamery. However, licensing issues forced the ice cream stand to temporarily close in June. It’s since relocated to a space inside Grandma Bob’s pizzeria in Corktown. That location will remain open alongside the new shop on Cass Avenue, Mahoney confirms.
Once it receives the final blessing from inspectors, Cold Truth Midtown will open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Customers can expect to find two different flavors of dairy soft serve and two different rotating non-dairy flavors on the menu at all times served in cups and fresh waffle cones with special toppings. The new location will also be debuting its vegan hot chocolate recipe. Diners can also head to Cold Truth for doughnuts from Dilla’s Delights and Astro Coffee. The store hours will expand in 2020.
Stay tuned for more updates.
