New Center gets a market outpost

Plum Market is now soft open in New Center as it awaits a delayed liquor license. The second Detroit outpost of the metro area grocery chain is located at the base of the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center at 670 Amsterdam St. This micro location spans 5,000-square-feet and features a salad bar, a Zingerman’s cafe, and other options for a fast lunch. There’s also a slightly more paired down selection of grocery and household items.

New grocery store sets opening date in Royal Oak

A small-format Meijer called Woodward Corners Market is set to open on Wednesday, January 29, according to Crain’s. The 41,000-square-foot is part of the Beaumont development at 13 Mile and will feature prepared foods, a bakery, a deli counter, doughnuts, a Great Lakes Coffee stand, and grocery items.

Canned nitro coffee

Great Lakes Roasting Company is capitalizing on the buzz for cold brew by canning its coffee. The 12-ounce cans, released in November, come in cold brew and nitro cold brew varieties, for folks who like a frothy head on their chilled coffee beverage.

Dairy favorite gets a new look

The 79-year-old icon Guernsey Farms Dairy is undergoing a $1 million renovation in 2020 with updates to the interior and exterior, Hometown Life reports. The Novi restaurant and dairy stand is also gaining a liquor license and plans to serve local beers, wine, and, of course, boozy milkshakes.

Two new taprooms are in the works for St. Clair Shores

St. Clair Shores is getting some brewery upgrades in the coming months. Warren-based brewery favorite Dragonmead is expanding to the former Shipwreck Brewing Co. building along the Nautical Mile on Wednesday, December 11, according to the Detroit Free Press. That location will be called Dragon’s Landing. Meanwhile, Copper Hop Brewing is aiming to open sometime in December along Greater Mack Avenue, Crain’s reports.

Irish Pub shuts down

The Claddagh Irish Pub in Livonia abruptly closed its doors after 15 years in Livonia, according to Hometown Life. The restaurant’s lease has ended and the Midwestern pub chain elected not to renew.
