Edible cookie dough company expands
A local startup Detroit Dough is expanding to a new, temporary location inside the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi on Wednesday, December 18. Until now the company’s edible cookie dough was primarily available at sports venues and movie theaters. Detroit Dough got started in 2017. The new location will be open for three months serving items like cookie dough twists, cookie dough bars, cookie dough and cake jars, and cookie dough sandwiches. Customers can dress them up with 15 different toppings. The shop will also feature local items like Vicky’s Homemade Ice Cream, pastries from Good Cakes and Bakes, and Bea’s Lemonade.
Renowned chef departs metro Detroit projects, again
Chef Takashi Yagihashi is cutting ties Pernoi, his three-month-old joint venture with chef Luciano DelSignore. The commute between Chicago and Birmingham was putting a strain on the chef’s schedule, according to the Detroit Free Press. Yagihashi previously gave up his stake in Ann Arbor’s Slurping Turtle. Pernoi represented his return to the Southeast Michigan scene. He’ll finish out his time at the restaurant after the holidays.
Temporary shutters
Award-winning doughnut shop Dilla’s Delights is on hiatus until January 2020 while the shop’s proprietor Herman Hayes, better known as Uncle Herm, recovers from cancer treatment. In a post to social media, Hayes states that he closed the shop in December to take advantage of a “slower” season and recover. Hayes underwent cancer treatments and was declared cancer free in June. Dilla’s team is in the process of planning a few changes to the format of the business and plans to reopen downtown on Friday, January 3, 2020.
