Poke Burri Brings Sushi Doughnuts to Midtown on Wednesday #DetroitFood
The Atlanta-based poke and sushi burrito chain is opening on Alexandrine Street
Viral food generator Poke Burri is poised to open its Detroit location in Cass Corridor on Wednesday, December 11. The Atlanta-based chain known for its poke bowl and sushi burritos is debuting at the base of Strathmore Apartment building in Midtown.
The address, which previously housed Le Petit Zinc and Dangerously Delicious Pies, will be operated by a local managing partner and engineer Mohamad Atwi of Dearborn with founders Seven Chan and Ken Yu. The Detroit restaurant will be the fourth location for Poke Burri, which first debuted in 2016. Chan tells Eater that the booming restaurant chain is in the process of opening around 20 locations across the country, with five scheduled to debut by the end of January. The restaurants are a mixture of company-owned locations, partnerships, and franchises.
Poke Burri has a fast-casual, counter service format. Customers place their orders and pick up their meal when their name is called. The Detroit location will seat around 22 patrons with a mix of tables and counter seating.
On the menu, diners can expect build-your-own poke bowls, burrito-sized sushi rolls, and sides like fried pork dumplings and spicy tuna wonton nachos. However, the chain is more widely known for its stunty specials like ring-shaped sushi doughnuts, sushi pizza, and deep-fried sushi corndogs. Chan says customers in Detroit can expect to see these items rotating through regularly on Poke Burri’s “secret menu.” During the first few weeks, the restaurant will feature “secret promotions.” For example, Chan says the group has named secret items in the past after customers who brought in 20 people to the restaurant.
Poke Burri is located at 70 W Alexandrine St.; open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday); website.
