Here’s What We Know So Far About What’s Coming to Shinola Hotel #DetroitFood

A beer hall and year-round alleyway are among the developments

The developers behind the hotly anticipated Shinola Hotel have been releasing bits of information the past few weeks about the food, drink and retail spaces that are expected to open inside the new downtown development. Now a few more details about two of the spots have provided to Eater.

Among those newly confirmed details about what’s going to fill up part of the 16,000-square-feet of food, beverage and retail space is the American beer hall, Brakeman. Featuring a rotation of Midwest-centric craft beers on draft, the Brakeman will also include an alleyway open year-round with games like Ping-Pong, foosball and shuffleboard. The name Brakeman refers to the style of one of the company’s iconic watches.

Eater previously noted that renderings of the hotel first released to Architectural Digest showed another space referred to as “Evening Bar.” We’ve been able to confirm with representatives the luxury watch-maker that the Evening Bar is indeed part of the development and described the concept as a “comfortable, classic American bar serving seasonally crafted cocktails and bar bites. The representative also compared the bar to the NYC location under the same name and run by New York-based hitmakers NoHo Hospitality Group, operated by James Beard Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini, Luke Ostrom, and Josh Pickard.

Descriptions provided by designer Christine Gachot to Architectural Digest show that the bar is likely be located inside the 1400 Woodward Ave. building where the lobby is located and will be joined by an unspecified restaurant.

Last week Crain’s dropped the names of four retailers that are also expected to land on the first floor of the 130-room boutique hotel, including juice-makers Drought, women’s fashion retailer Madewell, fragrance maker Le Labo and Detroit-based clothing retailer Good Neighbor.

Up until recently, representatives had been fairly secretive about what to expect in the hotel’s retail space. The development is supposed to open sometime in December. This is likely not the final word on what’s to come from NoHo. We will keep you posted when we find out more.
