The 38 Essential Restaurants in Detroit, Fall 2017 #DetroitFood

Where to find fresh rice bowls, outstanding baklava, and creamy dill pickle soup

It’s time for the fall 2017 edition of the Detroit Eater 38. The 38 is Eater’s answer to that age-old question, “Can you recommend a restaurant?” This quarterly list seeks to identify the city’s key dining establishments (with a few representatives from the suburbs). Eligible additions may have been overlooked in the past, might have recently stepped up their game, and must have been open for at least six months.

Longtime members Le Petit Zinc, Selden Standard, Polish Village, Roast, Amar Pizza, The Golden Fleece, and Cadieux Cafe are leaving the map this month to make way for Russell Street Deli, Grey Ghost, La Feria, Polonia, Voyager, Noble Fish, and Shatila Bakery. Here, now, are 38 essential restaurants that represent the city’s flavor, history, and style.

Restaurants are listed geographically, never ranked. Not satisfied with the list we’ve assembled? Make your case in the comments or on Twitter or Facebook.
